About Me

My photo
I'm an east coast girl making my way through life. I have a love for cooking, fitness, and really anything that can bring me happiness. Living my life for the next day and on a search for whatever my happily ever after may be. Life's too short to be unhappy right? If you navigated your way here, stay awhile! Have a nice day!

Friday Friday!

Helloooo friends!

Praise the LORD I never thought this day would come. Finally, I'm on spring break!!! I can't wait to get home and just relax. Sweet, sweet spring break. I will be just fine soaking up the D.C. sun. People underestimate it, but I have gotten some of my best tans laying out in the hammock in my backyard.

Today couldn't be a more perfect day either. I showed up to class (unlike the rest of my classmates) and got two extra bonus points on my midterm for going...and the professor cancelled class! Good start to the day. It's also about 80 degrees so I'm sitting outside in my *navy blue and orange* sundress just soaking up some last minute rays before I head home.

One thing I particularly love about my school is the trees that blossom in the springtime. So many people just walk by them but they are so damn pretty I can't stand it. They are cherry blossom-esque and look amazing. It's too bad so many people just walk by them everyday and don't take the time to appreciate them. I don't think you're really living life unless you take the time to soak up your surroundings.

Another thing I love about the spring is fro-yo. True, I love it all year round - but eating it in the spring time makes it that much better. Something about how cold it is mixed with how warm the weather is just makes me feel great. It also reminds me of high school - my best friend Francesca and I used to go get frozen yogurt and then go back after school to watch the boys baseball games. It was our little thing, and I miss it! I need to do a post on Francesca (remind me!). I also think it's so funny the different flavor combinations people can come up...still searching for my topping and flavor soulmate.

Kyle and I saw 21 Jump Street yesterday. It was honestly the funniest movie I've seen in awhile and it had me laughing the whole time. Not only was it funny but it kind of taught you a lesson - no matter who you were and who you were friends with in high school, none of that matters when you grow up. Anyone can be friends with anyone, and you can find yourself being close with people you never would have imagined. Happened to me this year! I always thought I'd be friends with a lot of athletes, but recently I've found friends from all different backgrounds and interests and I love them all! Always keep an open door to new friends.
{Side note, everyone should see the movie it is too funny...Kyle and I even saw a 75 year old couple laughing in the movie too - it's fun for everybody}

Before I go home for break, it's nice to just look at my campus. We never really see it for how beautiful it is because we're always too busy cursing it for making us work our little butts off. It's nice to just take a step back and remind yourself how lucky you are because of where you are.

Last but not least...the weather I'll be going home to today is...
Perfection, perfection, perfection!

Days like today with a cool breeze and a warm sun make me realize how lucky I am to be where I am, have who I have, and be who I am. And ALL of you should feel the same way too.

Happy Friday and have a beautiful, warm, perfect weekend.

XOXO, Rosie

Another Monday

Hi guys! Who else is totally bummed that the weekend is already gone? I know I am - but think of it on the bright side, 4 more days until Friday right?! I'm sick again, another terrible cold - why is it that whenever we hear someone say they have a cold it doesn't seem like they're actually sick, but when we get colds it's like the end of the world? Colds = miserable. Anyways today I wanted to do a little more about me stuff, but this time I want to tag you guys in it and have you guys post it on your blogs too! I found some interesting little questions that might make this Monday go by a little sweeter and faster. So...I tag Barbie and Monica and Emily to try and finish the survey on their own blogs with the same questions!

1. Which is worse, failing or never trying?
I think that it's worse to never try, because you always get left with the lingering thought about "what if," and I know from experience that it's better to have tried and failed then to be left wondering what could have happened if you had tried.

2. If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich?
Pinterest would make me a billionaire if happiness was the currency! And I am SO serious about that! But really, just being with the people I love and exploring new things and new places would make me the happiest. If I got to go to every place on my bucketlist and just live that lifestyle for a little I would be so happy.

3. To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken?
This is a toughie. I think more or less we control our lives, but that fate does play a big part too. I think we make decisions that fate had already planned for us if that makes sense. I don't try to control my life especially too much because I think everyone has a natural course they are going to follow. I think more than anything I've steered myself in the direction I want to go, but I most certainly haven't controlled where I've ended up.

4. Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things?
I'm more worried about doing the right things. This is another hard question (which is the point of the post!), but I think personally I'm more worried about doing the right things. I think that as long as I do the rights thing then I'll naturally end up doing them right. If that makes sense.

5. Do you push the elevator button more than once? Do you really believe it makes the elevator faster?
YES! Guilty. This totally translates into my life too. I think the elevator will go faster the more you tell it to, and I think I have a bad habit of believing that the more you push people the better likelihood there is of getting what you want out of them. Not sure if that's an unattractive quality or not...

6. Would you rather lose all of your old memories, or never be able to make new ones?
Tie. I can't pick. I don't want to lose any old memories, because old memories are what give you your you-ness. They are what make you who you are. But I still want to be able to make new memories, otherwise you won't have any new-old ones to look back at! Such an indecisive answer, but I can't choose.

7. Would you rather have less work to do, or more work you actually enjoy doing?
I would love to have more work that I actually enjoy doing. I read a quote somewhere (everywhere) that said if you love what you do then you never work a day in your life. I love that quote - and I think it's very true. If you love something then you're never truly working, you're just having fun and enjoying yourself. Here's hoping that we all get lucky enough to have a job that we absolutely love!

8. Do you feel like you’ve lived this day a hundred times before?
Sadly, yes. But I think that's normal in college. Everything is monotonous. There isn't really anything exciting that happens day to day, but I think it's also your own personal responsibility to put a little oomph and sparkle into your day so that your life doesn't get too lackluster.

9. If not now, then when?
I'm going to take the lazy way out and say "tomorrow." Terrible answer. This question is so vague but strangely deep...I think when something needs to be done you'll do it in the right time and fashion.

10. If you had to move to a state or country besides the one you currently live in, where would you move and why?
I think I'd go southern if I had to be in a different state! I love the east coast, but I feel like living in the south would be very refreshing. It's a whole different way of life, and I think it'd be so fun to go somewhere new and start over from square one.

Well - there's just a few questions. Some of them really make you think don't you? So now I started the game of tag, and I hope you guys will repost the questions to your blog and answer them for yourselves!! Happy Monday!!

Life's Little Instructions

Hey guys! I found a picture entitled "Life's Little Instructions." They were all kind of clustered together, but after reading them they were just so sweet and I think they definitely needed to be shared. Surprising how many of them are so simply, yet we ignore them so much each and every day. Maybe we could all start to try and do one or two of them everyday, and it could catch on and become a habit. I know I'm definitely going to try, and it's pretty cool to think that if everyone else tried to do the same then the world could get a little bit brighter every day. I typed them up below so you could read them easier, hopefully you love them just as much as I did. Amazing how such little things have the ability to make you and the people around you a little bit happier.

46. Never underestimate the power of love
47. Drink champagne for no reason at all
48. Live your life as an exclamation, not an explanation
49. Don't be afraid to say "I made a mistake"
50. Don't be afraid to say "I don't know"
51. Compliment even small improvements
52. Keep your promises, no matter what
53. Marry only for love
54. Rekindle old friendships
55. Count your blessings
56. Call your mother

There's a daily dose of reading for you! But really, I hope you found one or two of those that you're going to commit yourself to doing every day. Make it a habit, then the habit will become a routine. Plus, you'll be happier in the long-run if even one of those becomes a part of your day. And you can never have too much happy, right?

Someone Special

I am the biggest believer in having someone special in your life. I don't think that there's a better feeling in the world than loving someone with all you have, and being loved in return. It's fun, it's rare, it's beautiful, and it's everything in between. People come and go, but when you find someone that really makes everything bad somehow seem good...you should hold onto them. My boyfriends name is Kyle and he is my absolute best friend in the whole world. He's just like me, which is why we get along so well. Everything's better when he's around. He's like sunshine on a cloudy day to me, and I'm thankful every single day that I have him in my life. He's sweet, handsome, funny, easy-going, and impossible not to love. He has every good thing I've ever wanted in somebody and I'm very lucky that I found such a good guy. I'll probably refer to him a lot in future postings, so I just wanted to give you an idea of who we are together. We're a fun couple - we love cooking together, we love bumming around and watching t.v. for hours together, we love working out together, we love going places together, we love having fun, and we love exploring new things. I'm 5'2 and he's 6'2, and that leaves a whole foot of fun between us! He's my best friend in the whole world, and when anything funny, bad, sad, exciting...or anything else happens, he is the first person I want to tell. He can be my goofball, my sweetie, my anything really. He's my junk food buddy and my t.v. buddy and I remind myself every single day that I'm the luckiest girl in the world to have such a great guy. Wherever I go in life, I want him by my side in the future! And I think there's definitely a bond between high-school sweethearts that can keep you together. And so far, we're proof of it! Anything is possible if you love with all you have, trust, and have a good time!!

Valentines Preview

Valentines Day is just around the corner, and I could not be MORE thrilled. It's my absolute favorite holiday, because I love all the love and chocolate that goes around! It's an important day to step back and realize what you love and what you're thankful for. Plus, there's chocolate, pink, red, and endlessly possibilities for cute things to bake for your sweetie - or anyone else for that matter! I seriously cannot get enough of all the cute display windows at every store I go to: everything has hearts, pink, and red...and I love it! Too bad Valentines Day only comes once a year...so soak it up while it's here people! Here are a few of the possibilities I may bake up this year:

Via Kelseys Kitchen

Via A Farm Girls Dabbles

Via Annies-Eats

Via Glorious Treats

Via Quick Dish

So many delicious, cute pink choices right? However will I choose what to bake! Good thing we have two weeks left until V-Day officially starts off. I hope you guys will bake something this year and really enjoy Valentines Day - it's a great day if you allow it to be! I know I'm excited and I can't wait to tell you all how my night was. Springtime Tease

It has been too warm for January over here! With temperatures nearing the 60's, I'm starting to taste springtime on the tip of my tongue. And I love it! I can't wait until flip flops, sundresses, jean shorts, and tanks become regular staples again! Winter blues are tough, and although we still have about two months of this dreary cold to bear, I found something that might cheer you up and make the time go by a little bit faster.

Winter is too much gray and sadness, so why not add a pop of color to your life? I can tell you from personal experience, a bright nail polish color has the power to change your day. When everything seems bland and boring, just look at you toes and fingers and your mood can instantly change! Depending on of course, if you have found your "pop" color yet. Mine is "Playdate" from essie because this little girl has a huge crush on any color purple. Here are a few of my choices, maybe your pop color is here too:

"Turquoise and Cacos" via essie

"Sand of a Beach" via essie

"Playdate" via essie (My pop!)

"Mango Bango" via essie

"Lapiz of Luxury" via Essie (My other pop!)

"Fruit Sangria" via essie

"French Affair" by essie

"Carnival" by essie

"Beach Bum Blue" via essie

Hopefully you found a color there you like! Find your pretty pop color, it makes the long days shorter and the bad days better. A good nail color is very underrated. Also...is it just me or is it a coincidence that most of these colors are related to the beach and summertime?!

Take care until next posting!

Emotional Clean-Out

Hi everybody, (anybody?!). I wanted to write about something that I find to be a total necessity in life. We all get upset, we all hold our grudges, but at the end of the day...what are they worth? Someone once said that for every minute you're angry you lose 60 seconds of happiness. That's a true statement. Life is so short, and it shouldn't be wasted letting other people get to you, or even with you trying to get to other people.

Grudges are understandable sometimes: someone does something and it hurts you or upsets you. It's only natural to form some ill feelings towards that person. But really, why? What good will it do you to feel bad about them? It won't. I learned this hard way, but I am sure glad that I learned it at some point. You can be as mean or as mad or as bitter as you want, but you're just hurting yourself.

One of the most freeing things I've come to find is to just let go, to decompress. To take a step back from life, take a deep breath and put everything into prospective. What good will it do you to be mad at someone? It's a waste of energy, and that person is a human too. We need to love each other and care for each other no matter how hard it may be at times.

Another important lesson I've learned? The second you just forgive and forget and focus on being sweet and living your life, whatever problem you had goes away. The person you're in a tiff with realizes that it was also a big mistake, a big misunderstanding. Sweetness kills hatred, my friends. It's a tough lesson to learn, but once you learn it I promise that you will find more happiness than you've ever known. This is going from the ex-queen of grudge holding too, but the minute I realized that keeping ill feelings towards someone just makes me sick myself? Well, let's just say I've definitely come along way. Sweetness is the way to go. It makes you happy and anyone else around you happy, and that is the key to happiness. Spread the happy, it catches on. Try it for a week, see how it goes. Till then...happy Saturday :)

XO, Rosie
